You are navigating the world with a map. The map has edges. Some areas are blank. Some areas are drawn wrong because the survey was done in bad conditions. And the most dangerous parts of the map are the ones where you wrote "I know this" and stopped looking.

The practical move is deceptively simple: distinguish what you are observing from what you are inferring. These are different operations that happen to feel identical in real time. "She looked annoyed when I said that" is an inference. "She frowned and looked down when I said that" is an observation. The gap between those two statements is where most interpersonal misjudgments live.
When you are about to make a significant decision - a hire, a strategic call, a difficult conversation - pause and try to separate the data you have from the meaning you have assigned to it. List the facts first. Then list your interpretations separately. Then ask: are there other interpretations that would fit the same facts? If yes, how would they change what you do?
This is not a plea for permanent uncertainty. You have to make decisions. The point is to build the habit of knowing which layer you are operating on - the observation layer or the interpretation layer - so that you can at least calibrate your confidence accordingly.
Key Point: Separating observation from inference is not about doubting everything. It is about knowing what kind of evidence you are actually holding. An inference you know is an inference is something you can update. An inference you have mistaken for a fact is a trap.
Most of the mistakes you will trace back to your worst decisions are not failures of intelligence. They are failures of map-checking. You were smart, and you were working with the wrong map, and you did not stop to verify.
