Privacy Policy

Last Updated: February 4, 2026

Scrollina ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices and rights. It applies to the Scrollina mobile application (Android and iOS), our website at scrollina.com, and any related services (together, the "Service"). This policy is designed to meet the requirements of the Google Play Console Data safety section, GDPR/UK GDPR where applicable, and other applicable privacy laws.

1. Introduction

By using the Scrollina app or website, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service. We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when it was last revised.

2. Data Controller

The data controller responsible for your personal data in connection with the Service is Scrollina. You can contact us at the details provided in Section 15 (Contact Us).

3. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly, information that is generated when you use our Service, and, on our website, information collected via cookies and similar technologies.

3.1 Account and identity information

  • Email address - when you create an account or sign in (required for account creation).
  • Name and profile photo - if you sign in with Google, we may receive your display name and profile picture from Google (optional; depends on your Google account settings).
  • Account identifier - a unique user ID assigned by our authentication provider (Appwrite) to identify your account.

3.2 App activity and user-generated content

  • Course progress - lessons completed, quiz results, and progress through courses.
  • Saved content - articles or items you save, bookmark, or add to collections.
  • Preferences - settings and interests you choose in the app (e.g. categories, notification preferences).
  • Course generation requests - when you request an AI-generated course, we send the topic you enter ("prompt") and your user ID to our backend so we can create and save the course for you. This data is processed by our systems and by Google's AI (Gemini) as described in Section 7.

3.3 Device and technical information

  • Device type and OS - e.g. device model, operating system version, so we can support and improve the app.
  • App usage data - e.g. features used, time spent, in-app actions (we may use this to improve the Service; we do not sell this data).

3.4 Website-only: cookies and analytics

When you visit our website (e.g. scrollina.com), we may use Google Analytics and similar technologies to collect information such as pages visited, referrer, and general location at country level. This is described further in Section 13. The mobile app does not use cookies.

3.5 Data we do not collect

We do not collect precise geolocation, health or fitness data, financial or payment information (beyond what you may provide in-app for future purchases, which would be processed by payment providers), or sensitive categories of data such as race, religion, or political views. We do not sell your personal data.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • To provide the Service (courses, articles, progress, saved content).
  • To generate personalized courses when you request them (see Section 7).
  • To personalize content and recommendations where applicable.
  • To send you service-related notifications (e.g. updates, reminders) if you have agreed.
  • To analyze and improve the Service (e.g. stability, performance, features).
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and the safety of users.

6. Third-Party Services & Sharing

We use the following categories of third-party services. Each may collect or receive data as described in their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

  • Appwrite - We use Appwrite for authentication, database (e.g. user profiles, courses, progress), and file storage. Data you provide and app activity are stored and processed by Appwrite in accordance with their privacy policy and our instructions.
  • Google - We use Google Sign-In for authentication (so you can sign in with your Google account). Google may receive your sign-in request and, depending on your settings, share your email, name, and profile picture with us. We also use Google's AI (Gemini) for course generation as described in Section 7. Google's privacy policy applies to their processing.
  • Our backend / automation (n8n) - When you request an AI-generated course, we send your topic and user ID to our own backend (hosted automation). That system then uses Google Gemini to generate course content and images and stores the result in our database (Appwrite). This processing is necessary to provide the feature.
  • Website analytics - On our website we may use Google Analytics (or similar) to understand usage. See Section 13.

We may also disclose your data where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights and safety of Scrollina and our users.

7. AI and Course Generation

When you request a new course in the app, you provide a topic (e.g. "Introduction to Python"). We send that topic and your user ID to our backend. Our systems use Google Gemini (AI) to generate course structure, lesson content, and a cover image. The generated content is then saved to your account. We do not use your course requests to train Google's general AI models for purposes unrelated to providing you the Service. Your topic and user ID are processed only to create and assign the course to you and to operate our systems.

8. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and secure authentication. Our providers (e.g. Appwrite) also apply security and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we take the protection of your data seriously.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes in this policy. We may retain certain data longer where required by law (e.g. tax, disputes) or for legitimate business purposes (e.g. security, backups). When you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal data in line with our retention practices and applicable law.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights. To exercise them, contact us using the details in Section 15.

  • Access - Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction - Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion - Request deletion of your personal data (including account deletion).
  • Portability - Request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format where technically feasible.
  • Restriction / object - In the EEA/UK, request restriction of processing or object to certain processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent - Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
  • Complaint - You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. in your country of residence).

Account deletion: You can request full account deletion by contacting us at the email below. We will process your request in line with applicable law and delete or anonymize your personal data, including account information, progress, and saved content.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or share your personal information as defined under California law. You have the right to know, correct, delete, and port your data, and to limit use of sensitive personal information. You may not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

11. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country, e.g. under 16 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. International Data Transfers

Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States and where our service providers operate. Where we transfer data from the EEA or UK to countries not deemed to provide adequate protection, we implement appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms approved by regulators). By using our Service, you acknowledge such transfers and safeguards.

13. Cookies and Tracking (Website)

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies (e.g. Google Analytics) to analyze traffic and usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. The Scrollina mobile app does not use cookies. For more information about how we use analytics on the website, contact us.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last Updated" date. For material changes, we may also notify you in the app or by email where appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
